The University of Western Australia
This policy deals with the membership of deans on Senate, and Academic Board and its committees.
The purpose of the policy is to ensure that deans have equal opportunity to influence decision-making by Senate or Academic Board or their committees.
1.1 Deans must not be members of resource influential committees if there is not provision for ex officio membership for all deans.
1.2 This policy does not affect any right to vote in an election.
2.1 A dean is not eligible to stand for election to membership of Senate provided for under Section 8 of the University of Western Australia Act 1911.
2.2 A dean is not eligible to be a member of a Senate committee.
2.3 A dean is not eligible to stand for election, or be co-opted, to committees of Academic Board or Academic Council if provision is not made for membership of all deans.
3.1 By resolution 254/90, Academic Board resolved "that Heads of Division not be eligible for election to the Academic Council or to other Academic Board Committees".
3.2 By resolution 397/93 (22 November 1993), Senate resolved "that Executive Deans should not be eligible to stand for election to Senate under the provisions of Clause 10(c) of the University Act, but that they should be eligible to vote in such elections".
3.3 By resolution 304/93 (1 December 1993), Academic Council resolved "that Executive Deans shall not be eligible to stand for election, or be co-opted, to Academic Council committees where no provision is made for membership of all six Executive Deans, but that they should be eligible to vote in such election(s)".
